What kind of meditation do you do and what are the benefits?

Name it, if it has a name, and describe it briefly. It is meditation on a theme (love, peace, etc.)? Do you attempt to keep your mind on something (a location in the body, a specific thought, an internal image, etc.)? If there is scientific research on your meditation give a web page with the references..
Of course, there is also transcendental meditation in which there is no theme and no attempt to keep the mind on something.
Mr Obvious: Usually people doing research on meditation have name for the meditations that they study. Superficially, two meditations may seem identical, but the details are important. The benefits may depend on them. So we identify the meditation with the specific teaching that one goes through to learn it. In this way, there is no confusion.
Why the thumbs down? It is not nice. Meditation is a very large concept. There are religious meditations and there are non religious meditations.

My life is very hectic and i have so many things on my mind. I am stressed out and even though i am still a Christian i feel like meditation is God’s way of giving me peace and calm in my hectic life. I read that meditation can improve your mood, clear your mind, and make you more calm and happy. I am in no way trying to convert to Buddhism but i think meditation is a very good method. What are some good meditation exercises to calm and clear your mind?

i am looking for a center close near southgate michigan. where i can further my study of meditation. i have been trying meditation for about a year now, but i feel i need someone to help me along the way. i am also looking for some good suggestions on some good books for beginners. any info is well appreciated.
Thanks william, but i have study the bible and scriptures and other religions for about 7 years. now i am looking for help with the actual meditation. in my honest opion all religions have the same GOD. and if you look at all the underlininges of said religions, they all want the same things. peace and love.
just wanted to add that the current KJV bible was made with books left out in 184 AD. by St. Constantine. also if you look at deuteromity chapter 12 V 32. you will see what i am getting at.
Sorry William. i may have interpreted your response wrong, and wish i could erase what i have already written. and in its place put. i already know what i want/need to meditate on, now i am looking for guidence of the process. thanks again William for your contribution.
John P. i have read numberous books dealing with meditation, and spirituality. including books on christianity, buhdhism, and also some vedi scripts(sp) i also have done a google searcha nd the closest centers were 30+ miles away, now i know thats not that far. but i was looking for something alittle closer. even if its a little sangha. just someplace where i could get some hands on advice and guidence. i have practiced chakra meditation, as well as kundalini meditation. i would really just like some good books for beginners and a nice community to help me grow in my search. thank you for your advice.
oh sorry john, i am not attempting to practice any certain tradition of meditation. just meditation in general. i like your explaination on the breathing, as i have read alot of different breathing methods. i really appreciate your advice and i need to go and reread it again. also the real reason i first posted this question is to find a community, and because i recently fginished 2 books on the subject. well one is on meditation and very small. while the other focuses more on Buhdihism

meditation inner peace
Is meditation on Christianity?

Hello, I am as a person with a considerable amount of tension and would like to achieve internal peace and would like to give meditation a try. Will meditating invade any principles of Christianity? Thanks

Try to meditate on the Gospel of Jesus Christ also known as the Rosary. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19, cf. John 14:13-14, Acts 2:21) I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and eternal life. Lev 5:5, Neh 1:5-9, Dan 9:3-19, James 5:16) Our Father which art in heaven Hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done earth as in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:9-13, cf. Luke 11:2-4, Mark 14:36, Gal 4:6) Glory to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now and always will be world without end. (Luke 2:14, cf. Rev 4:11; 5:11-14) Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially the most need of Thy mercy. Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with you. (Luke 1:28) Blessed art thou among women (Luke 42a 1:41, Luke 1:48) Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus (Luke 1:42 b) Holy Mary, Mother of God (Luke 1:43) Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
